OK, let's revisit the "you being evil" supposition again...

Giving someone pocket change or dumping an injured bird in a box does not make someone a good person, what could I have done with my resources and abilities? I could have ensured that the bird wouldn't have been put to sleep by nursing it back to health myself or brought the freezing beggar in for counseling and gotten him lasting help, I could have taken a deeper personal interest past what may have simply been a selfish desire to avoid the possibility of feeling guilty in each of these situations. That our society might call these acts strongly admirable on their own is rather sad or sick.
